DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

About the Course

Civil Engineering aims at improving the civil life of human being by harmonizing the natural resources available on earth. Civil engineering deals with the Advance Construction technology, Geo- technique, Transportation & Traffic Engg., Water Supply & Sanitation, Surveying and Mapping by using modern methods of remote sensing, Fluid Mechanics and Water Recourses engineering. The construction engineer deals with the design and supervision of construction of bridges, buildings, tunnels and dams. . Engineers specialized in Geo-Technique are vital and relevant for conquest of areas ranging from Antarctica to the moon. Transportation engineering deals with the planning, design and construction of national highways and roads. Broadly, a civil engineer is expected to do planning, research, design and construction of buildings and roads, transportation, irrigation and water power, hydrology, water supply and sewage disposal, dams, reservoirs, and hydropower, treatment for industrial wastes and abetment of air pollution and disaster mitigation.

Student Role

An undergraduate course in B.Tech. (CIVIL) is aimed to provide the hard core exposure in civil engineering courses like construction, Structural analysis and Water resources engineering, Surveying, Management and exploitation of water resources, planning and design and renewable source of energy, which have practical applications in the field of infrastructure development.

Students have been imparted a comprehensive training in surveying at the end of fourth semester by conducting a survey camp for two to three weeks by using modern instruments to learn to work in groups, co-operate and manage the large works under the rough and tough environment.

To analyse and make use of computer, subjects on computer application and numerical analysis have been also taught to get acquainted with software application in the modern age to cut down the time of planning design and execution. Our students are exposed to provide the basic understanding of various subjects and practical in Fluid Mechanics, Structural Analysis, Concrete technology, Soil and Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Surveying. These labs are modernized and well equipped even with digitised instruments.

A six week Industrial Training after 4th and 6th semesters and Minor/Major projects in 7th and 8th semester provide and exposure to latest technologies used in Civil related fields.

In addition, the students are taught about the Moral Values and Engineering Ethics and Oral Presentation Skills. The students also gain the knowledge of Environmental Studies, Economics and Management Studies.

In the final year , student have to take up the project work in various fields such as modern foundation, hydraulic system modelling, ground water engineering , hydro power and non-conventional sources of energy , remote sensing and disaster mitigation and management to expose them to the practical application in respective field. Seminars are arranged on various topics relevant to their subjects.
